AI against Covid-19

AI against Covid-19

The cutting-edge technology.

As we know that the whole world is grappling with the unprecedented shock propagating from novel coronavirus.The Covid-19 beleaguered the world economy.People are facing anguish caused by this alien virus. Now it is confirmed that the Post-Covid era will be completely different from the previous world order. In this corona era only technology and its innovations are last resort.AI technology can spur in the mitigation of the impact caused by the dreaded virus and can crate a new avenue for future urgency.Doctors and healthcare personnels are using AI to triage covid-19 patients. As many countries faced with acute staff shortages and overwhelming patient loads, many hospitals are turning to technology to help them manage the pandemic.Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a potentially powerful tool in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic that can play a significant role in this current crisis.AI requires big-data to make its tools capable of doing all works AI can, for present purposes, be defined as Machine Learning ML,Natural Language Processing NLP,and Computer Vision applications to teach computers to use big data-based models for pattern recognition, explanation, and prediction. These functions can be useful to recognize, diagnose, predict, and explain, treat COVID-19 infections, and help manage socio-economic impacts.Since the outbreak of the pandemic occured, there has been a scramble to use and explore AI,and other data analytic tools, for these purposes. The key point and main cause of concern is that AI has not yet been impactful against COVID-19.Its use of AI is facing problems by lack of and sometimes ambiguous data.To Overcome these constraints,it will require a deeply careful balance between data privacy and public health concerns, and more rigorous human-AI interaction, that requires a deep deliberations from all stakeholders. It is unlikely that these will be addressed in this crisis time instead,AI may help and can create a healthy eco-shstem to deal with the next pandemic like urgency. In the meantime, gathering diagnostic data on who is infectious will be essential to save lives and limiting the economic havoc wrecked by containment and lock down.

Future prospects of AI

These types of deadly diseases have given a boost for the devastating of new age drug and vaccine,AI  and  machine  learning are playing vital role regarding this.Numerous  other  virus-based  treatments like cancers, genetic disorders,immuno-deficiencies and infections are being developed as a prophylactic device, and the future of the AI-based virotherapy is promising .Perhaps, future drug discovery  need  not  be  limited  to  serendipity  and human intelligence decades since SARS,AI could be instrumental in the  fight  against  the  virus.Insilico Medicine in Hong Kong used  AI algorithms to design six new molecules that could halt viral replication.
In a hospital, patients often had to wait six hours or more for a specialist to look at their x-rays.If an emergency room doctor could get an initial reading from an AI-based tool,it could dramatically shrink that wait time that can be used for emergency related cases.A specialist could follow up the AI system’s reading with a more thorough diagnosis later.the most severe covid cases displayed distinct lung abnormalities associated with viral pneumonia.Rt-PCR(Revese transcription polymerase chain reaction) takes too much time for tests of coronavirus that cause delays, chest x-rays had become one of the fastest and most affordable ways for doctors to triage patients. Many are using such technologies for the first time under the pressure of staff shortages and overwhelming patient loads. In parallel, many AI firms have developed new software or recalibrated existing tools, hoping to cash in by cultivating new client relationships that will continue after the crisis is over. The pandemic, in other words, has turned into a gateway for AI adoption in health care—bringing both opportunity and risk simultaneously. On the one hand, it is pushing doctors and hospitals to fast-track promising new technologies. On the other, this accelerated process could allow unvetted tools to bypass regulatory processes, putting patients in harm’s way.

Tracking and Prediction

AI can be used to track (including nowcasting) and to predict how the COVID-19 disease will spread over time and over space. For instance, following a previous pandemic, that of the 2015 Zika-virus, a dynamic neural network was developed to predict its spread. Models such as these will, however, need to be re-trained using data from the COVID-19 pandemic. This seems to be happening now.At Carnegie Mellon University, algorithms trained to predict the seasonal flu,are now be re-trained on new data from COVID-19.
Various problems bedevil the accurate forecasting of how the pandemic will spread. These include a lack of historical and unbiased data on which to train the AI; panic behavior which leads to “noise” on social media and the fact that the characteristics of COVID-19 infections differ from those of previous pandemics. It is not only the lack of historical data but also the problems with using “big data,” e.g., harvested from social media, that have shown to be problematic.

Conclusive remarks.

The tactical response to contain COVID-19 has also been similar to that of SARS, but one major difference exists. In the nearly two While China is the epicentre of the outbreak,it is also the country playing a leading role in developing and using AI to battle the virus and reaping revenue. Infervision,a Beijing-based AI company, can diagnose COVID-19 using CT-scans(computed topography) in just ten seconds.Manually reading a CT scan can take up to fifteen minutes, and  during  this  time  doctors, hospital  staff  and other patients are at risk of being infected by SARSCoV-2. AI  and  machine  learning  are  also  being used to model how infectious diseases spiral into major outbreaks  and  become  pandemics.Researchers are using these models to predict how COVID-19 will  spread  so that  they  can be better prepared to fight it.While it is premature to gauge to  what  extent AI will affect the COVID-19  outbreak,AI will probably play a role in containing this outbreak and even more so in future outbreaks.
